The Legacy High School Dolls won several accomplishments at the 2023 Seaworld Showtime International Dance Competition.Among winning first place in several categories, they won the Best of the Best and Grand Champs for the first time since 2021. They’ve been invited to participate in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City several times and have more opportunities coming their way. For Head Coach Misti Rosborough, she’s happy with her 23 seniors that have led the way in bringing back to the title to Legacy High School.

Midland High Senior Sarah Stewart and Freshman Marisa Stewart faced off in the District Championship for Girl’s 6A Tennis. The elder Stewart won the match, advancing to regional playoffs. Marisa won a match later on that helped her proceed to regionals. The sport has always been popular in the family. Sarah and Marisa’s parents, Scott and Carmen have played for the University of Texas and Texas Tech while older siblings Allison and Tyler have played collegiately at Abilene Christian University and Tech. On March 7, Midland honored the 30th anniversary of Girl’s Varsity Soccer for both Midland and Lee High School. In the early 1990′s, parents Glenna Scarborough, Linda Schumake, and Alice Keel advocated and petitioned for the school district to bring a varsity team for the girls rather than let them play on the boy’s team. Both schools had a girls’ team beginning in January 1993. Despite some of the challenges that occurred early on, both teams are still playing today and the sport has grown. Former Midland High Player Kenye Kay Butts and Former Lee player Debbie Baze spoke about the experiences and the process it took. Watch below for more.

Odessa native and Permian High School Joshua Franco is preparing to compete for another Boxing National Title. One of his biggest influences is his Grandfather who also serves as one of his coaches. Boxing has always been big in the family history and Joshua is glad to keep the tradition going as he enters the USA Boxing National Qualifier on March 18. The Odessa Boxing Club has other children competing in Michigan all under the age of 15 including Jayden Navarrete, Marcelo Navarrete, and Harvey Sanchez.

The Midland College Men’s Basketball team was triumphant in the NJCAA Region Five Championship on Saturday as they defeated Ranger College 68-55. Head Coach Tra Arnold and Guard/Forward Keonte Jones spoke postgame about their thoughts of achieving the championship. Midland College will move on to Hutchinson, Kansas where they will be competing in the National Tournament. They’ve earned a first-round bye and play on March 21 in the second round.
