VIDEO: Andrews native excited to represent West Texas at Special Olympic games

ODESSA - Donavan Haynes of Andrews has been chosen as one of six athletes to serve as a torchbearer for Special Olympics Texas.

Haynes will be carrying the torch for SOTX's West region with Deputy Marshal Brent Sheets of the U.S. Marshal's Office.

The two will run the fourth segment of the relay and pass the flame to help start the 2017 Summer Games.

Haynes will also be recognized as the first-ever Andrews ISD Special Olympics athlete to attend the event.

He will be competing in the 200m Run, where he averages 31 seconds.

The Summer Games start on Friday and will run through Sunday, May 28 at UT-Arlington's Maverick Stadium.
