FRISCO - UT Permian Basin guard Jacob Ledoux was named to the 2019 Lone Star Conference First Team and was also named the Conference's Newcomer of the Year, the league announced Wednesday night at the 2019 Basketball Championships Banquet in Frisco.
Ledoux made an immediate impact in his first year at UT Permian Basin. The junior from Port Barre, La., led all players in the Lone Star Conference with 18.1 points per game in 2018-19. He had a season-best 36 points in a win over Western New Mexico, one of two games this season over 30 points. Ledoux had at least 20 points in 10 different games and scored in double figures 25 times.
"I just want to thank my coaches, for showing me the right way to do it on and off the court, and my teammates. Without them I wouldn't have been honored," said Ledoux.
He ranked second in the league in hitting 81.2 percent from the free throw line, was 13th in the conference in averaging 2.5 assists per game (69 total), and 11th in the league with 39 steals on the year.
"The minute Jacob stepped on campus he went straight to the gym. If he isn't sleeping or in class you can find him working on his shot," said head coach Josh Newman. "His countless hours in the gym has made him one of the best offensive players in the league. With an entirely new team, rolls needed to be established, and from day one Jacob established himself as an elite scorer that we could rely on for offensive production."
