UTPB falls to Rogers State in series finale

ODESSA - Despite scoring three runs in the first inning, the UT Permian Basin offense couldn't get going in a 9-3 loss to Rogers State.

The Hillcats (2-1) struck first with a three-run first inning. The Falcons (1-2) could've escaped the inning after one run but an error extended the inning. The Falcons would bounce back in their half of the inning, doing damage with two outs. Back to back singles by William Bierlein and Alex Wixson put runners on the corners. Peyton Koopman would drive in Bierlein and put the Falcons on the board. Gabriel Melendez would follow that with a two-run triple into the left field corner and tie the score. The Hillcats would add a pair in the top of the second on an RBI-double from Zack Mann followed by a wild pitch. They would add another two in the sixth and two more in the eighth for the 9-3 final. The Falcons had chances, stranding runners on first and second with no out in the fourth and having a runner on second and one out in the fifth.

After a big day yesterday, Melendez added two RBI and a triple. Koopman finished the day with a pair of hits including a double. Quinton Rockwell threw two innings in relief allowing just one base runner on a hit by pitch.

The Falcons are in Cleburne next week as they participate in the Alpine Fresh 4-Him Classic where they will take on East Central and Oklahoma Panhandle on Thursday.
