STEPHENVILLE - UT Permian Basin took Tarleton State to the brink before free throws sealed the game for a 62-53 final.
After falling behind early, the Falcons (3-14) would battle back from an 11-4 deficit. Baskets from Khali Pippins-Tryon and Nyachristmas Puok cut into th deficit and after trading points, a jumper from Pippins-Tryon closed the quarter trailing 19-16. Sarah Bersang opened the second quarter with a basket of her own to make it a one point game. After a Texann (11-5) basket, Lemia Ntor-Ue three-point play tied the game at 21. A free throw by Pippins-Tryon would momentarily give the Falcons the lead before the teams would go back and forth trading the lead. A Texann lay-up at the end of the quarter would sent them into the half leading 30-28.
Trailing by four, a 6-0 Falcon run including a three from Pippins-Tryon to go up by two. The Texanns would grab momentum with an 8-0 run of their own. The Falcons would respond with a seven point swing capped by a three-pointer from Chynna Rivera stretching from the end of the third to the beginning of the fourth quarter. Back to back lay-ups from Ntor-Ue put the Falcons up 50-47 with 5:40 to go, but the Falcon offense would go cold. The Falcons would be held without a point for five minutes before Bersang would lay one in with 24 seconds remaining. The Texanns would hit seven free throws in the final minute to pull away in the 62-53 final.
Ntor-Ue led the Falcons in scoring with 15 points along with five rebounds. Pippins-Tryon also finished in double figures with 10 points. Puok was solid all around with nine points, nine rebounds, four blocks and three assists. Bersang would end the night with nine points and seven rebounds,
The Falcons continue their road trip Saturday against Texas A&M Commerce before taking on Western New Mexico in Silver City on Tuesday.
