LUBBOCK - Red Raider linebacker Dakota Allen heard his name called on the final day of the 2019 NFL Draft, drafted to the Los Angeles Rams with pick No. 251 in the seventh round.
Allen was a three-star recruit from Humble, Texas when he arrived at Texas Tech in 2014.
After a solid redshirt freshman season, Tech was dismissed after being arrested for home burglary and stealing guns. Those charges were ultimately dismissed.
After that, Allen played at East Mississippi CC in 2016, taking part in the "Last Chance U" series on Netflix.
With Dakota Allen being drafted, he became the first "Last Chance U" player to be drafted.
After his season at EMCC, Allen re-enrolled at Texas Tech in 2017.
He lead the team with 102 tackles, six for loss, intercepting two passes and broke up four others.
In his senior season, he started 11 contests after posting 73 tackles, 6.5 for a loss and two pass breakups.
He was also a captain for his last two seasons in a Red Raider uniform and was the only Texas Tech player to be drafted in the 2019 NFL Draft.
