The Sanderson Eagles and Marfa Shorthorn varsity football teams will forfeit their previously scheduled games for week three of the high school football season.

According to Marfa ISD, they will forfeit their game against Nueces Canyon due to not having enough players to field a team. The district suspended various players due to late week's incident with Sanderson.

On Tuesday evening, Sanderson Athletics announced on Twitter that their football team will not play against Garden City JV team.

They stated in their tweet that," in response to UIL's policies and recommendations regarding the incident that occurred in Marfa between the Sanderson and Marfa Varsity Football teams, the Sanderson HS Varsity Football team will not be playing Garden City JV in Balmorhea on Thursday, September 13, 2018."

Last week, the Head Coach of the Sanderson Football team, David Donnell, 61, was trying to separate players fighting on the field, in a game between the Eagles & Shorthorns, when he grabbed one of the players hard enough it caused him to fall to the ground.

That player ended up in the hospital.

Coach Donnell was then charged with assault and could face up to a year in jail and $1,000 fine. He has since bonded out of jail.
