After 8 weeks of high school football, Stanton head football coach Jerry Burkhart has left the program, due to a family issue, according to Stanton ISD.

Burkhart, who has led Richland Springs (6-man football) to eight state championships in football, will pursue other opportunities.

Cody Hogan is the new interim head coach at Stanton.

Burkhart's son, Landon, who started the year at Stanton, transferred to Sterling City (6-man football team) mid-year, which Burkhart said was a family issue.

According to Rankin ISD, they will look to approve Burkhart for an assistant role on Saturday, in a special board of education meeting.

The Buffaloes are currently 1-6 on the season.
