Odessa -- Sophomore Choco Munoz homered twice Tuesday afternoon as UT Permian Basin softball split a doubleheader against Sul Ross, defeating the Lobos 3-1 and falling 3-2 in game two at the UTPB Softball Field in Odessa.
Munoz hit her first of the day in her first at bat, blasting a 2-2 offering to left field in the bottom of the second inning to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
Tied 1-1 after a Sul Ross run in the top of the fifth, Alyssa Lopez drew a bases-loaded walk on four straight pitches to force in Valerie Gonzalez for the go-ahead run. Kayla Martin later came in to score on a foul out by April Arellano down the line to right.
Cindy Juarez picked up in the win in relief, throwing two scoreless innings after entering to start the sixth. She gave up a pair of hits while getting a strike out.
Munoz second blast of the day came in response to a three-run home run by Rebecca Rodriguez. Rodriguez left the yard with two runners on base in the top of the fifth for a 3-0 Lobo lead.
Munoz connected in the bottom half of the inning to pull UTPB back to 3-1. Later in the frame, Gonzalez singled to left to drive home Jessica Gonzales and pull within a run, trailing 3-2.
The Falcons are back on the road this weekend, traveling to Lawton, Okla., for three games against Cameron Thursday and Friday.
