Falcon tennis earns first bid to the NCAA Tournament
UT Permian Basin men's tennis earned its first ever trip to the NCAA Tournament Tuesday night when the Falcons earned an at-large bid to the South Central Regional bracket.
"Coach Buck and I could not have hoped for a better group of guys to represent UTPB Tennis at our first ever tournament appearance in school history," said head coach Guillaume Gauthier.'
The Falcons advance to take on a familiar opponent next weekend. UTPB takes on fellow Lone Star Conference member MSU Texas.
"It's an indescribable feeling making it to the NCAA Tournament for the first time," said senior Marcos Silva. "I couldn't be more proud of how far this team has come. It's amazing seeing our improvement as a team, going from being unranked in the region my freshman year to making it to the NCAA Tournament my senior year. I'm extremely grateful for being part of this family!"
The Falcons and Mustangs will be no stranger to one another Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. UTPB closed out its regular season against MSU Texas, and faced the Mustangs in the quarterfinals of last week's Lone Star Conference Championships.
"I can't put into words how proud I am of this team," said senior Jordan Minjoot. "It's been amazing for us as seniors to see how much this program has grown to making the NCAA Tournament in our final year, we're still trying to wrap our heads around how great it is."
