WEST TEXAS -- Winter weather will be affecting traffic in West Texas this weekend.
TxDOT crews were out on Thursday and Friday preparing the roads for the coming icy conditions.
They say that their trucks have treated all major roadways in Midland and Odessa with a salty mixture designed to limit ice buildup.
As conditions worsen overnight crews will be on standby to spray sand on the roads as well.
"When we put the salt solution down it will stay in place until the rains hit and sometimes the rain will move it but there's no reason not to get out early and that way we can manage our resources better and the earlier we start the more roads we can cover," said Gene Powell, Public Information Officer for TxDOT.
TxDOT urges that drivers slow down and drive carefully in these conditions.
