Garden City Highway remains closed following flooding

GLASSCOCK COUNTY -- Thursday 5 p.m. Update:

Water covers the roadway along State Highway 158 heading to SH 137.

According to TxDOT, State Highway 137 has reopened but still has water on the road. Drivers are urged to slow down if they use the roadway.

Garden City Highway remains closed as repairs will have to be made once the water recedes.

Thursday 3:10 p.m. Update:

Parts of Garden City Highway and State Highway 137 remain closed on Wednesday following flooding.

Garden City Highway is closed east of FM 1379 while SH 137 is closed south of FM 307.

County Road 415 south of Hillger Road is closed due to flooding and road damage.

There is no word yet on when the roadways will be reopened to the public.

Wednesday 2:30 p.m. Update:

Tuesday 3:45 p.m. update on road closures:

GLASSCOCK COUNTY: SH 158 still closed just northwest of SH 137. Repairs will need to be made after the water recedes. Guard rail also needs repairs.

MIDLAND COUNTY: Crews are working on flood damage on FM 1379. Please slow down in work zone.

WINKLER COUNTY: Flooding has closed southbound SH 115 at the Allsup’s in Wink. Traffic being diverted. Water is at least 3 feet high. Lanes will reopen once water recedes. Should be Wednesday.

Flooding has closed Garden City Highway between Midland and Garden City on Tuesday.

The roadway near SH 137 has been completely covered by water and officials are urging drivers to find alternate routes.

Authorities tell CBS7 that one driver was swept away by the floodwater and held on to a tree for more than five hours before they were rescued.

The following roads are now closed: SH 158 just north of SH 137 in Midland County; south section of FM 1379 in Midland County; SH 137 north of SH 158 in Martin and Glasscock counties.

There is no word yet on when the roads will be reopened.
