ODESSA -- School supplies were flying off the shelves over tax-free weekend.
Pens, pencils, notebooks, and binders of course were all on school supply lists.
It’s no secret technology now plays a role in gearing up for the next school year.
Local Staples manager Tristan Garcia was surprised to see technology on school supply lists for the youngest students.
"Kindergartners and 1st graders were needing headphones and looking at tablets for school and that they were going to be using tablets in school,” said Garcia.
That’s not the only big change Garcia noticed during this year’s tax-free weekend.
The back to school shopping list is also changing.
"It was very extensive and very detailed for a lot of the grades compared to the last couple years that I've seen,” said Garcia.
On the school supply list, there was one item he’s never seen before.
"Clorox Wipes were really one of the weirdest things that I saw on someone’s list this year,” said Garcia.
While parents waited to hit the stores until tax-free weekend to save an extra buck, stores have been preparing for quite some time.
The Staples store in Odessa began preparing and stocking back to school items in May.
