Suspect identified in Big Spring officer-involved shooting

BIG SPRING -- The suspect involved in an officer-involved shooting in Big Spring has been identified.

Andrew Garza, 43, is currently in stable condition at a hospital in Odessa.

According to the Big Spring Police Department, an arrest warrant for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Peace Officer has been issued for Garza.

Any further charges in the case are pending the result of their investigation.

Officer Blake Grantham, who was involved in the shooting, has been placed on administrative leave as the investigation is underway.

On Thursday, February 8 Officer Grantham was responding to a call of a burglary as well as criminal mischief when he made contact with Garza.

Garza then allegedly ran away to a yard in the yard of 400 East 10th Street where he pulled a .45 caliber semi-automatic from his pocket.

Officer Grantham then fired his weapon, hitting Garza once in the abdomen.

Police say that Garza's weapon was found to have been reported as stolen two days earlier.
