ODESSA, Tx. (KOSA) -- Strong winds Wednesday afternoon left a trail of wreckage behind in Odessa.
The roof of one unit at the Woodcrest Apartments was torn off. By Wednesday evening, that roof was only covered with a tarp. Scattered debris of shingles and pieces of metal were found strewn about the lawn.
One resident who lives in the unit, Hilda Cosme, described what she saw and heard.
“It sounded like footsteps upstairs, real heavy footsteps, loud banging in our ceiling and our roof. And I looked outside and I saw all this debris, huge debris falling off the roof of our apartments. A great big air thing, huge air thing, aluminum or steel. And I saw all the insulation from the roof that fell out the hole, the glare of the roof that’s hanging across the hall, my neighbor’s apartment,” she said.
Wind damage also occurred at Peppertree Apartments in Odessa. Odessa Fire Rescue responded Wednesday afternoon. The roof of a unit at the apartment complex was left damaged.
