Shopping spree held at Midland Park Mall for Big Spring girl battling cancer

MIDLAND -- A Big Spring girl courageously battling cancer had the opportunity to take a break and go on a shopping spree.

Thanks to the Kids Wish Network Briana Mendoza started her Thursday morning as a VIP, with her very own shopping spree at the Midland Park Mall.

During the shopping spree Briana was able to buy new clothes, shoes, and anything else that struck her fancy.

"I'm so thankful, like, it's so exciting, it's something different and it's just so exciting," said Briana.

Briana is currently battling a life-long diagnosis of Ewing Sarcoma, a type of bone cancer. She first learned that something may have been wrong when her legs began to hurt, and after a week couldn't move her legs at all.

A CAT scan showed that Briana had a mass on her pelvic bone, and she was then diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma.

Briana then had surgery, a 10-day hospital stay and chemo but later learned in a check-up that she also had cancer in her thyroid, which was removed.

Through the entire process Briana continued to be a fighter, looking to a future working in healthcare to help children in situations like hers.
