Sheriff: Man shoots at car during road rage, narrowly missing 5-year-old

MARTIN COUNTY, Ky (WSAZ)-- A man is behind bars Sunday night after the Martin County Sheriff says that he shot at a car during an incident of road rage.

Martin County Sheriff John Kirk said that the incident started in Johnson County and that Billy York then fired at the car in Lawrence County.

The Sheriff says that one of the bullets hit just around 30 inches away from a 5 year old passenger.

The vehicle that was allegedly shot was carrying four people.

The Sheriff says that the vehicle that was shot then followed York in his vehicle all the way to Martin county and one of the passengers was giving information to dispatchers during the pursuit.

The Sheriff says that at one point the chase exceeded over 100 miles per hour.

Eventually, The Sheriff says that he intercepted York in the Grassy community of Martin County and took him into custody.

The Sheriff said that spent round casings were found inside York's vehicle along with a concealed deadly weapon and a rifle on the passenger side.

York was taken to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center Sunday night.

The Sheriff said York is being charged with 4 counts of 1st degree Wanton Endangerment and carrying a concealed deadly weapon.
