WEST TEXAS -- An app made by a West Texan is looking to reduce the number of crashes caused by texting and driving by rewarding users with points they can use at stores.
The Safe 2 Save app gives drivers two points for every minute they drive over 10 miles per hour without touching their phones.
The app reports that it has about 126,000 users across the state of Texas.
Owner and founder Marci Corry says she has a special interest in the Permian Basin.
"This is where I'm from, I'm very passionate about Midland and Odessa, and we really want to help the roads be safer. The truth is, a lot of it's because people are looking down at their devices," said Corry.
Users of the app can redeem their points at businesses including the Barn Door and Texas Roadhouse.
You can find a full list of participating locations here. The app is available on both Android and Apple devices.
