A new bill filed aims at promoting the use of natural gas-based fuel in state fleet vehicles.

According to a press release, District 81 State Representative Brooks Landgraf filed House Bill 1979 Thursday.

The bill is meant to harness funds restricted exclusively for emissions reduction purposes.

In the press release Landgraf says, “This Texas Fuels bill is good for Texas. It will help create jobs in places like the Permian Basin that are blessed with an abundance of natural gas, but it will also provide a path for economic growth and cost-savings for Texas taxpayers.”

The new bill would authorize portions of the Texas Emissions Reduction Program or “TERP” fund to convert state fleets to have vehicles with engines that will run on natural gas based fuels.

"This Texas Fuels bill is good for Texas. It will help create jobs in places like the Permian Basin that are blessed with an abundance of natural gas, but it will also provide a path for economic growth and cost-savings for Texas taxpayers,” Landgraf said.
