Police warning of scam involving moving companies holding belongings hostage

The Midland Police Department is warning of a scam involving moving companies taking belongings and hiking up their prices.
According to MPD the companies will load all of a customer's belongings onto a trailer before hiking up the price and holding their furniture until the new price is paid.
MPD urges that anyone dealing with this contact the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles online at
and report the moving company.
According to TxDMV Texas law requires that companies show a guaranteed price or a "not to exceed" maximum before a move.
