Police: Man assaulted girlfriend after someone ate his brownies
A man has been charged and arrested for assaulting his girlfriend after police say he became violent when he found out someone ate his brownies.
Jason Eric Gonzales, 35, has been charged and arrested for Retaliation (Warrant), a 3rd Degree Felony, Continuous Violence/Assault Against Family Causing Bodily Injury (Warrant), a 3rd Degree Felony, and COC-Child Support (warrant).
On July 16, police with the Odessa Police Department responded to Medical Center Hospital in reference to a 42-year-old assault victim.
An investigation of the assault revealed that the victim had baked brownies for her boyfriend, identified as Gonzales. According to OPD, another person ate some of the brownies and Gonzales found out, angering him to the point that he punched the victim several times in the chest.
Gonzales also reportedly kicked the victim hard in the ankle causing a serious bodily injury.
Police say that a witness confirmed that Gonzales had punched and kicked his girlfriend after she had baked brownies. Officers also learned that the victim had filed several assault reports against Gonzales in the past, according to OPD.
OPD states that previous reports show that the victim had assaulted the victim two times previously in the last 12 months. In one of the assault reports, Gonzales allegedly threatened to kill the victim and her family for reporting a previous assault.
Detectives then obtained a warrant for Gonzales, who was charged and arrested accordingly.
