Pilot Travel Center with Dunkin' Donuts coming to Kermit
The city is buzzing over business and it's all thanks to the frac sand boom that's bringing big economic benefits and tons of truck traffic.
With all the traffic, comes problems -- there aren't many places for the truckers to park or rest up and recover, but soon that won't be an issue.
A Pilot Travel Center will soon open its doors in the City of Kermit.
The truck stop will be located off Highway 302 and Standard Avenue and house a Dunkin' Donuts and a deli. The plan is for the company to bring about 65 employees aboard.
'They need another truck stop for people to take showers, look at TV's - it's kind of like a home away from home type thing," truck driver Blandon Applewhite said.
Right now, truckers are parking on the side of the road in town because there are few options anywhere else.
"Kermit is not really a big town, so it's kind of great they're getting a Pilot here," Applewhite said.
The city is sitting at about 7,000 people right now and of course it's expected to grow.
Construction for the travel center will be complete April 30th and it should open its doors sometime in May.
