City: Contractors left crane unattended before it crashed into building

BIG SPRING, Tx. (KOSA) -- 11:45 a.m. Wednesday Update: The City of Big Spring has released new information on Tuesday's accident involving a crane.

According to a press release, the city had hired a contract company to do routine maintenance for the Russ McEwen Family Aquatic Center’s water slide pump.

The city says that contractor employees left the scene and the crane unattended before it crashed into the building.

The crash caused extensive damage to the center's mechanical, filter, and pump rooms which has pushed back the center's scheduled opening.

No injuries were reported.

Authorities responded to an accident involving a crane crashing through a building on Tuesday morning, KBest Media reports.

According to KBest Media, the crane crashed through the side of the Russ McEwen Aquatic Center Building at Comanche Trail Park.

No injuries have been reported. The cause of the crash has not been released at this time.

The public is asked to avoid the area as authorities deal with electrical hazards at the scene.
