Officer involved shooting at Odessa gas station

ODESSA -- At approximately 4:30 a.m. Saturday an Odessa Police Department officer responded to a burglary alarm at a Chevron gas station at 1601 S. Grant, near the intersection of I-20 and Highway 385.

According to an OPD press release, while checking the perimeter of the building, officers observed a suspicious dark colored SUV stopped and running. When officers approached the vehicle, the driver intentionally drove towards an officer in an attempt to run him over.

The officer fired his gun at the vehicle in response. The SUV fled the scene, but officers were able to stop the SUV on the I-20 service road. One male subject was taken into custody.

There were no injuries from the officer firing his weapon. The officer involved was not injured and has been placed on restricted duty.

As with all officer-involved shootings, the Odessa Police Department has requested the Texas Rangers office to investigate.
