Officer Heidelberg's family gives statement

MIDLAND, Tx (KOSA) -- Officer Heidelberg's family offered sincere thanks to the Midland Community for showing them love and support as they deal with this loss.

Officer Nathan Heidelberg was fatally shot last week while responding to an alarm call.

Since then, Heidelberg's family has received tremendous love and support from fellow officers and community members from all over the area.

Today, they returned that love.

"The family of Officer Nathan Hayden Heidelberg would like to extend their sincerest thank you, to the Community of Midland that Hayden loved to serve. Thank you also to those from around this nation in law enforcement and civilians, who have been praying for us in this most difficult time. While all of us knew how special Hayden was to this family, we did not realize the great impact he had on this city. The outreach of love and support form everyone has truly been overwhelming and amazing. We love that Hayden has touched so many lives in so many different ways and we love hearing all of Hayden's stories. We love that Hayden was your best friend, too. God bless Hayden’s brothers and sisters in blue. You will forever be apart of our family. All our love Nathan and Glenny Heidelberg.”

Officer Heidelberg's squad car is covered in notes and gifts from community members reflecting sorrow and respect. Thank you also to those around the nation

The Department will remove the car later this afternoon and send these tributes on to Heidelberg's family.
