Odessa police swear in six new officers

ODESSA -- The Odessa Police Department is welcoming six new officers to kick off the new year.

The officers were officially inducted into the department by Chief Michael Gerke during the Odessa Police Academy 17th Session graduation ceremony on Friday.

Odessa police shared the following on their newest officers:

Christopher Gradell Adams: Adams is 26 years of age and was born in Corinth, Mississippi and raised in Odessa, Texas. Adams graduated from Odessa High School. Adams served 6 years in the Marine Corps Reserve and is currently serving in the Air Force Reserve. Adams began his career with the Odessa Police Department on June 18, 2018 and is a graduate of the 17th session of the Odessa Police Academy.

Bandy Texas Blackmon: Blackmon is 29 years of age and was born and raised in Odessa, Texas. Blackmon graduated from Permian High School. Blackmon began his career with the Odessa Police Department on June 4, 2018 and is a graduate of the 17th session of the Odessa Police Academy.

William Dennis Gryder: Gryder is 39 years of age and was born in Brady, Texas and raised in Bay City, Texas. Gryder graduated from Bay City High School. Gryder served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Navy Reserve. Gryder began his career with the Odessa Police Department on July 9, 2018 and is a graduate of the 17th session of the Odessa Police Academy.

Reed Jones: Jones is 23 years of age and was born and raised in Odessa, Texas. Jones graduated from Permian High School. Jones served in the Marine Corps Infantry. Jones began his career with the Odessa Police Department on May 21, 2018 and is a graduate of the 17th session of the Odessa Police Academy.

Greg Ryan Palacios: Palacios is 23 years of age and was born and raised in Odessa, Texas. Palacios graduated from Permian High School. Palacios earned a Bachelor degree in Psychology with a minor in Criminology from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. Palacios began his career with the Odessa Police Department on July 6, 2018 and is a graduate of the 17th session of the Odessa Police Academy.

Amanda Smead: Smead is 27 years of age and was born and raised in Midland, Texas. Smead graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. Smead earned a Associate degree in Criminal Justice from Midland College. Smead began her career with the Odessa Police Department on June 25, 2018 and is a graduate of the 17th session of the Odessa Police Academy.
