May 14 marks the start of National Police Week across the country.

In Odessa police are asking resident's to change their front porch lights to blue bulbs to show support for the men and women in blue.

Police also hope residents will take time to honor and remember those who lost their lives in the line of duty.

"For those of you who like to show support for local law enforcement, especially those who lost their lives in the line of duty...one way you can show support is simply by replacing your front porch lights with the blue bulbs."

According to the Odessa Police Department, from 2017 to this month there has been a 73% increase in gunfire-related deaths among law enforcement across the county.
