Odessa man pleads guilty to killing father; gets 40 years in prison

ODESSA -- An Odessa man pleaded guilty earlier this week to murdering his father in 2017.

Investigators say Matthew Douglas Taylor stabbed his father in the chest and left him for dead in his 2nd Street apartment bathroom last July. When police and medics arrived, they say it appeared the father had been dead for several days.

Patrol officers later found Taylor at the 7-Eleven at 2712 East 8th Street in possession of his father's ID. He later admitted to striking his father with a frying pan and stabbing him to death.

A judge sentenced Taylor to 40 years in prison. Ector County District Attorney Bobby Bland says the family supported the plea.

ADA Kortney Williams prosecuted the case. E. Jason Leach represented Taylor.
