ODESSA, Tx. (KOSA) - People from all over West Texas showed up at Crossroads Church in Odessa all to run for a good cause.

Organizers said this fundraiser helps raise breast cancer awareness for women in the Permian Basin.

Each September, Odessa Regional Medical Center teams up with Pink the Basin to host ‘Cups for a Cause.’

Organizers said this fundraiser helps raise breast cancer awareness for women in the Permian Basin.

Valerie Longoria with Pink the Basin said this year has been their best turn out yet and all the money raised is going towards paying for mammograms and breat cancer diagnostic screening services.

Organizer said in previous years the event usually brings well over 400 participants running in either the 5K and 10K. This years event according to Longoria saw the most registrations they have ever had.

“Only 1 out of 5 women locally are getting their mammograms. A lack of mammography machines in surronding areas, are a part of the reason why there aren't more women obtaining their annual mammograms. Additionally it's the lack of education and funds to get mammograms. This is why Pink the Basin promotes awareness and raises funds for mammograms and breast cancer dianostic services,” said Longoria.

Longoria said people looking for more resources on breast cancer and how they can get involved with the fight, can visit their website for more information.
