ODESSA (ODESSA AMERICAN) -- A man is facing a felony charge after his ex-wife stated she was punched, kicked, ran over with a car and had a golf ball thrown at her face, an Odessa Police Department affidavit detailed.
Juan Carlos Luna, 48, was charged Monday with continuous violence against family, a third-degree felony.
The first reported assault happened on April 24, 2018 and the second occurred Nov. 31, 2018, the affidavit detailed. Luna’s ex-wife reported the incidents to OPD on Monday.
During the first assault, Luna’s ex-wife was walking home and he pulled up to offer her a ride, the affidavit stated. The ex-wife accepted and she offered to give him gas money, which Luna accepted.
After Luna filled up with gas, he reportedly drove out into the country and threatened to beat and leave his ex-wife for dead. His ex-wife stated she had an app that monitored her location in case anything happened to her, which scared Luna into taking her to her mother’s house, the affidavit stated.
Luna pushed his ex-wife out of the vehicle and assaulted her by punching and kicking her numerous times on the head and body, the affidavit detailed. Luna went back into the vehicle, put the vehicle in reverse and struck his ex-wife’s legs with the vehicle.
In the second assault, Luna and his ex-wife were verbally arguing and he began punching her in the head numerous times, the affidavit detailed.
Luna stopped punching his ex-wife because she stated she had called the police. Luna reportedly became upset his ex-wife had called the police and he grabbed a golf ball and threw it at her face, which struck her underneath the left eye.
Luna was charged, arrested and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center. He had one bond totaling $25,000 and was still in custody as of Thursday afternoon, jail records show.
