ODESSA, Tx (BY: PAUL WEDDING, THE ODESSA AMERICAN) -- An already complicated case of reported sexual assault of a minor had been wrinkled further after the Odessa High School senior Ke’Evan Majors was additionally charged Monday with possession or promotion of child pornography.
A probable cause affidavit states Majors was issued the charge, a third-degree felony, Monday after a video was found on his Snapchat of the reported 15-year-old victim giving him oral sex.
Majors had previously been charged with two counts of sexual assault of a child, a second-degree felony, in response to the same report that resulted in the child pornography charge.
Large outcries of support have come out for Majors following the initial two charges. Majors’ father started a GoFundMe last week for attorney’s fees, and has already raised nearly $6,000 of their $8,000 goal.
“Ke’Evan is a respectful, intelligent, hardworking, bright young man, who has plans to go to College after High School,” the GoFundMe states. “Ke’Evan future is hanging in the balance as he is being accused of something that was consensual.”
Furthermore, a peaceful protest has been scheduled in support of Majors to be held from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday outside the ECISD administration building, asking administrators to allow Majors back into school and let him walk at his graduation ceremony next month. There will also be a peaceful protest at 6 p.m. Tuesday outside Art of Fades, 3310 Andrews Highway, allowing community members to voice their opinions on Majors and the case.
Support for Majors grew last week after the reported victim recorded a live video on Instagram and said she had consensual sex with Majors, contradicting the affidavit, which states she told police she didn’t feel like she was in her right mind to agree to sex due to smoking marijuana with him beforehand.
The affidavit states officers were first called about the incident at about 4:17 a.m. April 20 after the victim’s brother heard moaning and walked in on Majors reportedly having sex with his sister. Majors reportedly admitted to smoking marijuana and having sex with the victim.
Questions still remain as to whether Majors will be indicted on the charge of sexual assault. Ector County District Attorney Bobby Bland previously said an 18-year-old could be charged with sexual assault of a minor if they were more than three years older than the alleged victim.
Jail records show Majors was taken into the Ector County Detention Center Monday and was released on the same day on a $15,000 bond.
