PECOS COUNTY -- A new waste facility is making its way to Pecos County sometime in the next few months.
According to a press release, Petro Waste Environmental has received a permit for the construction of a new landfill from the Texas Railroad Commission in Pecos County.
The state-of-the-art, cost-effective landfill would be used to dispose of oilfield waste from the West Texas area. This comes after several other waste projects took place throughout Pecos County.
The new landfill would cover 115 acres and be located 23 mile west of Fort Stockton near the northwest corner of Mendel Road and IH-10 at exit 235.
The facility will accept oil-based mud, water-based mud, and oil-based drill cuttings among other oil related waste.
According to the press release the new waste facility will be open sometime in the first quarter of 2017.
A research project is currently eyeing Pecos County as a possible location for nuclear waste disposal.
