Police: Driver dies following crash involving City of Midland vehicle

MIDLAND -- UPDATE: More information has been released on Monday morning's crash.

According to the City of Midland, the crash happened at 9:15 a.m. on Cuthbert Avenue between Fairgrounds Road and Tilden Street.

The driver of the SUV, identified as Christopher Olgin, 28, passed away from his injuries.

The driver of the city vehicle was uninjured in the crash.

An investigation of the crash determined that Olgin was driving westbound on Cuthbert when his vehicle moved into the eastbound lane and hit the side of the dump-truck.

Olgin's vehicle then spun onto the northern sidewalk of Cuthbert, police say. Olgin was found not wearing a seat belt.

Investigators are now waiting for autopsy results to determine why Olgin changed lanes.

The City of Midland driver has been placed on administrative leave and has been ordered to take a drug test.

Public Information Officer Elana Ladd states that drug tests are standard procedure anytime there is a deadly crash.

Police in Midland are investigating a crash involving a city vehicle.

The crash was reported near the area of Cuthbert Avenue and North Fairgrounds Road on Monday morning.

According to a CBS 7 reporter on scene, a total of two vehicles are involved.

There is no word yet on injuries being reported on scene, or on what caused the crash.
