One of the Marfa area cemeteries is asking for debt forgiveness.
The Big Bend Sentinel reports the Merced Cemetery Association was undercharged for eight years. Now that the city has seen and corrected the rate, the cemetery has been seeing large bills in order for the city of Marfa to recoup some of the money.
Josie Simpson, a representative for the cemetery, told city council members that they cemetery has also been charged a sewer surchage despite having facilities requiring a sewer hook-up.
A request to forgive the debt has been denied by city administrators.
