PRESIDIO -- A man wanted in connection to a double murder in North Carolina was arrested when authorities say he was trying to cross into Mexico from the U.S.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, 20-year-old Jose Manuel Regino-Vargas was the passenger of a vehicle attempting to cross the border at 9:35 p.m. on Tuesday.
Officers searched Vargas' name and found a match in the National Crime Information database for an arrest warrant.
Vargas' fingerprints confirmed that he was a match and he was taken into custody.
“CBP officers performing their vital homeland security mission encounter wanted people on a daily basis,” said Michael Neipert, CBP Presidio Port Director. “It is important for the safety and security of our nation that those who attempt to escape justice are held accountable.”
According to CBS17, Vargas was one of two suspects involved in a double murder on New Year's Day.
