Man charged in connection to Kermit stabbing

WINKLER COUNTY -- A suspect has been arrested after a stabbing sent a man to the hospital the day after Christmas.

Alfonso Chavez has been charged with Aggravated Robbery, a 1st Degree Felony, and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a 2nd Degree Felony.

According to the Winkler County Sheriff's Office, officers with the Kermit Police Department responded to the 400 block of South Elm early Wednesday morning for a disturbance call.

When police arrived they found a man lying face down in the driveway of a home with a stab wound to his back.

An investigation of the stabbing led to officers requesting an arrest warrant for Chavez who was then taken into custody with a $60,000 bond.

Authorities say that the stabbing victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
