Luis Rangel Jr., 25, has been charged with four counts of Criminal Negligent Homicide.

Records obtained by CBS 7 state that Rangel was charged on Wednesday morning.

The Midland County District Attorney's Office confirms to CBS 7 that the charges are in connection to a crash that happened in January.

On January 14, troopers with DPS responded to a crash on State Highway 158 southwest of Midland.

When they arrived on scene they found a crash involving an F-150 and a Chevrolet Impala.

The driver of the Impala, 36-year-old Kantrell Hires and three of his children passed away from their injuries from the crash.

The driver of the F-150, identified as Rangel, was taken to the hospital.

An investigation of the crash revealed that Rangel was driving east when his truck hydroplaned, crossing into the westbound lanes and crashing into Hires.

A preliminary DPS crash report states that 'Unsafe Speed' was a contributing factor in the crash.

An indictment for Rangel was not immediately available.

Kantrell was a member of the Coast Guard and was an active member of his church. He left behind his wife whom he married just one month before and their unborn baby.
