Man arrested after weathering storm on roof trying to evade cops

ODESSA (NEWS RELEASE FROM ODESSA POLICE DEPARTMENT) -- Odessa Police have made an arrest following a standoff that occurred last night in Central Odessa. Uriel Loya, date of birth 12/16/1990, has been charged with Manufacture or Delivery of Methamphetamine “1st Degree Felony”, Evading in a Motor Vehicle “3rd Degree Felony”, Criminal Mischief “State Jail Felony”, and Criminal Trespass “Class B Misdemeanor”.

On 10-5-18 at approximately 1742 hours, Odessa Police activated their lights and sirens and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a maroon Chevrolet Silverado in the area of 8th and Tom Green. The driver of the listed vehicle, later identified as Loya, evaded officers in his vehicle and later abandoned it a few blocks away before exiting and evading officers on foot.

Loya then broke into a business (Hopes Sewing) and caused more than $2500 worth of damage to several roof fixtures. Loya climbed to the top of the business and refused to come down. Loya eventually came down after being on top of the roof for over three hours and was placed into custody at approximately 2100 hours.

Loya was found to be in possession of approximately 16 grams of methamphetamine. Investigation revealed that Loya also had a parole violation warrant out for his arrest. Loya was charged and arrested accordingly and later transported to the ECLEC.
