Fort Stockton Resident Wins Big Powerball Prize
A construction worker in Loving, NM has claimed a Powerball prize of $ 2 million. He purchased the lucky numbers for the Jan. 6 drawing.
José M. Sarabia, a Fort Stockton resident, claimed his prize at Lottery headquarters of New Mexico in Albuquerque on Tuesday. Sarabia has worked in New Mexico for the past three years and travels back to his home on the weekends.
Sarabia’s ticket matched the following numbers 02, 11, 47, 62 and 63 on the drawn white balls. He missed the power play number, which is the number of the red circle, in order to win that night’s jackpot of $ 500 million.
Sarabia purchases PowerPlay regularly in order to multiply his wins. However he was close to not purchasing his PowerPlay for that drawing. When the cashier printed out Sarabia’s Powerball with Power Play, she accidentally printed two tickets. He then tried to sell it to his friend, who did not want to buy the ticket. Sarabia ended up purchasing the ticket.
When asked if his friend regretted not buying the ticket Jose smiled and said. "No, he my friend said it was my ticket, it was meant for me".
Sarabia plans to pay his house and vehicles, donate to church and help his parents. His advice to players, "Keep playing. If you play, you win. One of these days is going to be your lucky day."
