PERMIAN BASIN -- Ever since the oil boom came back, there’s been a rampant hiring spree across the Permian Basin.

Take a drive down Highway 80 and you’ll see rigs, lots of traffic and dozens of ‘now hiring’ signs.

Workforce Solutions in Midland, Odessa, Big Spring and Pecos are placing nearly 500 people a month into jobs across West Texas. These jobs range from the oil and gas industry, which makes up about 30% of the Basin’s sector, to health care to transportation.

“We’re seeing a lot of hiring out here from truck drivers, automotive, diesel mechanics, technicians, electrical, Workforce Solutions Chief Executive Officer Willie Taylor said.

The City of Midland’s unemployment rate sits at 2.6%, and they are tied with Amarillo for the lowest unemployment rate in the state. The City of Odessa is slightly higher, sitting at 3.4%.
