Helping Hands Initiative: Hope House
If you're interested in volunteering with Hope House, you can find more information online
Gifts of Hope prides itself on supporting cancer patients in the Permian Basin. Their Hope House is one aspect of it as they help cancer patients in need with housing, medical support and more.
Volunteers have a wide range of ways to help.
"They make sandwiches, pray with them, help in any way they can."
Fatima Castillo is the sole employee at Gifts of Hope Hope House.
With the help of her board and 75 volunteers she says she's proud of the work they're doing to help those fighting cancer.
"So a lot of our volunteers have been through the cancer journey themselves and they are survivors or they've been a caregiver so they've helped take care of someone who has been on the cancer journey themselves," said Castillo.
Hope House is completely free to stay at for those getting treatment and their caregivers. Whether you need a place to stay for just one day or even several months, the Hope House is here to help.
Volunteers are needed to make sure that stay is as comfortable as possible.
"We have many different opportunities where you can come in and serve, from making meals to praying with other patients to helping with support groups or just coming in and helping with clerical duties in the office."
