It's been 57 years since the last Midland Police Officer died in the line of duty

Midland Police Officer Nathan Heidelberg is the first Midland officer to die in the line-of-duty since 1961.
The Officer Down Memorial Page says Lieutenant Gordon Smith, Jr. was shot and killed in November of '61.
Earlier that year, Police Officer Bryan Scoggins died in a motorcycle accident, as well as the first Midland Police Officer to die on the job. He was involved in a shooting on November 10, 1935.
