Arrest Made in Connection to Murder Investigation

DATE: April 11, 2020

Odessa Police have made an arrest in connection to a murder that occurred last night in Northwest Odessa. Chaviya Dewayne Crosby, date of birth 09/04/2002, has been charged with Murder “1st Degree Felony” and Tampering with Physical Evidence “3rd Degree Felony”.

On April 10, 2020 at approximately 1907 hours, Odessa Police responded to 920 West University in reference to a medical call. Upon arrival, officers observed a deceased female with a gunshot wound inside of the apartment. The victim was later identified as Jasmine Lozano, 17 years of age, of Odessa.

Investigation revealed that after Crosby got into an argument with Lozano, Crosby shot Lozano and fled the scene before officers arrived. Lozano was pronounced deceased on scene and next of kin were notified.

Further investigation revealed that Crosby had taken the firearm and disposed of it. Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, OPD detectives obtained warrants for Crosby, who was charged and arrested accordingly.

The Odessa Police Department has confirmed a 17-year-old girl was killed Friday night.

Police said they got the shots fired call around 7:00 p.m. and responded to the Sedona Springs Village apartment complex.

No one has been charged in the shooting at this point.
