ECTOR COUNTY -- The Ector County Sheriff's Office is searching for an inmate who was accidentally released.
According to ECSO, Jose David Garcia was released from the Ector County Detention Center on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
Garcia is described as a non-violent inmate who poses no danger to the public.
Sergeant Gary Duesler tells CBS 7 that Garcia is an illegal immigrant.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact ECSO at (432) 335-3050.
Sheriff Mike Griffis says that only human error is to blame for the release.
"It was irresponsible and carelessness on the officers part for not checking the inmates full identity prior to release," said Sheriff Griffis.
Another inmate with the same last name Garcia was set to be released when Jose was instead.
According to Sheriff Griffis, Detention Officer Pedrio Diaz released Garcia. Disciplinary action for Diaz has not yet been determined.
Each of the officers involved in the releasing of inmates will be participating in a refresher course on proper protocol.
