ECISD board decides not to keep Travis Elementary principal who allegedly failed to report abuse

ODESSA, Tx. (KOSA) - Last month, ECISD Elementary School Principal Linda Voss was cited for failing to report allegations of sexual abuse after several students came forward.

At Tuesday’s meeting, the ECISD school board decided they do not intend to renew her contract for next school year.

According to an arrest affidavit, this all began in January when three eleven-year-old Travis Elementary students told Voss they had been abused.

But ECISD police report they weren’t told about these allegations until four days later.

That affidavit says Voss is required by law to report abuse within 48 hours.

Our partners at the Odessa American report Voss was cited with failure to report in February, which is a Class A misdemeanor, and paid a thousand-dollar bond that same day.

The OA also spoke with Voss who said she was actually following ECISD policies.

According to that reporting, Voss claims that because the alleged abuse happened between students, she has up to ten days to investigate before she had to talk to police.

Despite the board’s decision at the Tuesday’s meeting, this isn’t the end of the line for Voss.

An ECISD spokesperson said she will have a chance to arrange a hearing within a month and make her case on why she should remain principal.
