Dead body found near Pecos
A dead body was found in Reeves County this morning. According to Sheriff Art Grenado the body was discovered around 7 a.m. on a dirt road about five miles southeast of Pecos, just off of county road 1450.
Two oilfield workers were driving down the dirt road to retrieve water when they saw a man lying on the ground in an orange shirt and black pants.
One of the witnesses told CBS7 that they thought the man was sleeping.
“We thought he was asleep,” the witness, who wished to remain anonymous, said. “We got out of the truck and started yelling at him. But he didn’t respond so that’s when we called the cops."
The witness said that he’d driven the same road the day before and saw nothing. He also said there were no visible injuries or signs of what may have caused the death.
“The body was fine,” he said. “It looked like somebody just left him over night. There was no trauma or decomposition.”
The dirt road where the body was found runs directly behind a man camp. Reeves County investigators were at the camp questioning residents.
Sheriff Grenado says investigators have not determined whether foul play was involved in the death.
