Dallas man dies in fall at Big Bend National Park

BIG BEND -- A Dallas man was killed in a fall at Big Bend National Park on Wednesday.

According to the National Park Service, 69-year-old Edward Lowe was on a five-day river trip going through the Boquillas Canyon with four others.

While Lowe went out scouting for a campsite a mile downstream from the mouth of the canyon he fell headfirst off an embankment.

Members of his party immediately started trying to save his life and began CPR. Two of the members canoed upstream and called for help from park authorities.

Big Bend National Park rangers and U.S. Border Patrol agents were able to find and recover Lowe's body later in the day.

"Big Bend National Park staff are saddened by this tragic loss of life, and extend their condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Lowe," stated NPS in a release.
