Transformer explosion closes Ector County Courthouse temporarily

ODESSA -- UPDATE: The Ector County Courthouse is closed temporarily Thursday morning after an underground transformer exploded.

According to Ector County Judge Ron Eckert, the explosion happened in the north lawn of the courthouse.

Power has been shut off for a few hours as Oncor crews work to de-energize lines.

Eckert tells CBS 7 that Judges & others working there have been told to return around 1:30 p.m. in the afternoon.

There is no threat after crews with the Odessa Police Department and Odessa Fire Rescue responded to a location in Odessa.

According to Corporal Steve LeSueur, their officers responded to an explosion call on Grant at the Ector County Courthouse Thursday morning.

When police and members of OFR arrived on scene they found that an underground transformer had blown out.

No injuries were reported at the scene.
