Crews battling four large grassfires in Ector County

11:36 p.m. Update:

The City of Odessa has provided an update to the grassfires that crews are battling in Ector County.

Officials say that the fire started around 4:30PM and continues to spread.

There are 4 grassfires burning in the same area, they are believed to be started by lightning, according to the city.

Authorities say that Odessa Fire Rescue has Battalion one, Division one, Tankers 1, 7, and 8, Wildland 1, Engine 7 and Engine 8 on scene.

The City has also sent units with gas, diesel and drinking water to this location.

The location is Hwy. 302 and Farm Road 307 and is spreading East West and North.

Odessa Fire/Rescue did ask for state resources to assist with this fire but no resources were currently available to assist.

Incident Command last report was that Fire 1 and 2 are currently under control, Fire 3 is approx. 90% contained and fire 4 is still out of control.

The heavy smoke and smell have started to make their way into city limits.

Officials ask all citizens to check the area prior to calling 911 to not overload resources with false calls.

Odessa Fire Rescue and Goldsmith Volunteers are working a grassfire on the Winkler/Ector County line.

That’s according to the Winkler County Sheriff’s Office.

It is located off of Wheeler Ranch road and CR 404.

The fire is not contained at this time and there are no injuries reported.

Traffic is flowing normally, but you should avoid the area as crews work to control the fire.
