Children remain at hospital following crash that claimed mother's life

ODESSA -- Two children who were hurt in a crash that claimed the life of their mother, Maylin Melo, remain at a hospital in Lubbock.

According to Angela Gutierrez, who organized a fundraiser for the family, 6-year-old Matias' condition has worsened but he continues to fight for his life.

Matias' younger brother, Mateo, is 'doing amazing" and is a 'normal 2-year-old watching cartoons on his phone'.

Gutierrez tells CBS7 that Melo's parents have made it to Lubbock to be with their grandchildren and son-in-law Julio. Julio has been with his children since they were airlifted to Lubbock.

On Friday, February 8 a visitation will be held at the Combest Family Funeral Home in Lubbock for Melo. A Rosary and Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church later in the day.

A GoFundMe page started for the family has raised more than $17,000.
